I just bought a birthday cake for my 11 year old. It is tragic looking! I hope that it tastes better than it looks. I was told traditionally they put flowers on, but they can do balloons. I have globs and lumps. The chocolate whip cream frosting is not even in color. Seriously, its the worst looking cake that I've ever seen. I'm so disappointed. Tip: hire a cake decorator. This place is probably best to get your doughnuts, not your birthday cake.
Great place for coffee and donuts and sweet rolls. Most bakery items run 1 dollar. The are higher quality than the chains.
Hi-way Bakery made us a cake for an important event. It was ready on time, beautifully decorated, and absolutely delicious. The cake was very moist. The strawberry filling was the best I've ever had. The frosting was not the type that is so sweet, you want to scrape it off - it was just right. I wish I could include a picture of the cake with this review to illustrate how beautifully it was decorated.
Through the years I've always ordered birthday and special occasions as well as pastries. They are very cordial and accommodating. You tell them what kind of cake you want and they give you exactly what you ask for. If you don't know or in doubt, they will assist you.
They have tables and seating if you want to meet friends have coffee and a donut.
I went here on August 18, 2017 to get strudels for my work anniversary. I couldn't decide which one, since there were so many different kinds. They were a big success! They tasted delicious and they were very affordable. I got all three for about the same price as a small cake at Jewel. Needless to say, I will be going here all the time from now on. I hadn't been there since I lived In South Chicago Heights back in 1987. I had forgotten how good this place was, but now I remember! I will be telling more people about Hi-Way bakery. :)
They also have a good business of customers buying dozens and take out.
